BrainCrumb (“we,” “us”) is a capture app: it helps you save fleeting thoughts as text, voice, or photo, enriches them with context, and hands them off to the tools where they belong. This policy explains what data BrainCrumb collects, how it is processed, and the choices you have. It applies to the BrainCrumb iOS app, the web dashboard at captures.braincrumb.app, and this website.
Data we collect
- Account information. When you sign up, our authentication provider, Clerk, collects your email address, name, and sign-in credentials on our behalf.
- Your captures. The content you choose to save: text notes, voice recordings, and photos.
- Optional context, attached at capture time. With your permission on iOS, each capture can include your location, the local weather, your motion state (for example walking or driving), and the titles of calendar events happening at that moment. Each of these depends on a system permission you grant — deny the permission and that context is never collected.
- Basic service data. Timestamps, sync state, and the technical logs ordinarily generated by operating a web service.
We do not collect advertising identifiers and we do not track you across other apps or websites.
How your data is processed
- AI processing. Captures are processed by Cloudflare Workers AI running on Cloudflare’s infrastructure: voice recordings are transcribed (Whisper), captures are classified into a category (contact, event, to-do, idea, note, or link), and text embeddings are generated to power semantic search. We do not use your captures to train AI models.
- Storage. Structured data (captures, transcripts, context metadata) is stored in Cloudflare D1. Photos and voice recordings are stored in Cloudflare R2. Search vectors are stored in Cloudflare Vectorize.
- Authentication. Sign-in and session management are handled by Clerk.
What we don’t do
We do not sell your personal data. We do not share your captures with third parties for advertising or marketing. The only third parties that touch your data are the service providers named above (Cloudflare and Clerk), acting as processors so the product can function.
Exports and handoff
When you hand a capture off — saving it to Contacts, Calendar, or Reminders, or exporting it as vCard, ICS, CSV, JSON, or Markdown — the exported copy lives in the destination you chose and is governed by that system, not by this policy.
Retention and deletion
Your captures are retained until you delete them. You can archive or delete individual captures in the app or the web dashboard at any time. To delete your account and all associated data, email erikkwilder@gmail.com from the address on your account and we will delete it within 30 days.
Your rights
You can request a copy of your data, correct it, or have it deleted by emailing erikkwilder@gmail.com. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or CCPA; we honor those requests regardless of where you are.
Children
BrainCrumb is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we make material changes, we will update the effective date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you in the app or by email.
